Restaurant Review The Garden Grill& Bar at
The Hilton Garden Inn of Kennett Square
General Manager: Tyler Misko; Sales Coordinator for Catering and Events: Theresa Hardy
Telephone: 610-444-9100
Website: www.HiltonGardenInn3.Hilton.com
Location: 815 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, PA 19348. The inn is located near the Longwood Shopping Center, in front of the Walmart, and there is a right-hand turn directly into their ample (free) parking lot off Baltimore Pike southbound
Ambiance: The ambiance of the lobby is so relaxing and hospitable that I was inspired to share what could be a little-known resource for locals! From the moment the sliding doors open, you enter an inviting space with a dining area and intimate bar on the right and on the left, a long table which seats ten in comfortably upholstered chairs in front of a gas fireplace. The space also offers coffee service, comfortable places for a small sit-down, big glass jars full of good candy, and beautiful lighting from natural and artificial sources. Great ambiance!
Service: Our dining experiences at the Hilton have all been Southern Chamber of Commerce catered lunch events, and it was their consistent excellence which got me interested in whether they serve meals. The Grill offer breakfast every morning with chef-prepared omelets and other breakfast dishes, for $12.95 a person or a simple Continental breakfast at $6.95.
They do not serve lunch except for catered events. Our experience with the catered lunch has been first-class, with good service and wonderful food, including a great array of tempting desserts! The wait staff have been efficient and unobtrusive.
Dinner is served daily from 5-10 p.m., except on Sundays. The Hilton Garden Inn people also can cater a business or personal event (they do lots of weddings) for 10 to 100 people, and they also offer full-service off-premise catering. If you want to have a business breakfast or dinner there, you can reserve ahead of time the long table with seating for ten.
Experience: It’s unusual to go to a business luncheon and come away raving about the food—it’s usually more like pushing it around on the plate. The chef uses a big variety of interesting vegetable and grains in medley type dishes—foods like sweet potatoes, quinoa, brown rice, squash, and root and green vegetables, well combined to create a tempting dish. There is no holding back on quality ingredients or skilled use of herbs and seasonings. It’s also unusual to reserve a biz luncheon based on the food you anticipate—but we did! The last time we were there, the buffet featured a root vegetable medley, chicken Southwest with black beans, tender chicken pieces, peppers and tortilla strips; roast beef slices with a rosemary seasoning, pasta primavera, and a lovely fresh green salad with 2 house-made dressings. Brewed iced tea, coffee, and a delicious dessert tray really rounded out the meal.
Menu: The dinner menu at the Grill offers some nice appetizers such as Applewood bacon and bleu cheese fries, buffalo or sweet chili wings, and 7 entrees from smothered chicken with sautéed vegetables in a cream sauce with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes, roll and butter for $13.00 to grilled sirloin with similar sides, $22. Desserts? Molten lava cake, caramel apple granny, etc., at $7. They also have good vegetarian selections.
Total Bill: Not totally applicable, but our group luncheon is $20 per person for members.
Additional Comments: They have a nice small wine list with quite reasonable prices, and some specialty cocktails, as well as ordinary beers and non-alcoholic beverages. In all, I would say that to know about this lovely establishment as more than a place to stay or have guests stay, with an indoor pool and hot tub complete, is a good thing to know for a next catered event or a reasonably quiet and elegant place to have a dinner or breakfast. And parking is FREE!
