The Blue Water House is a wonderful discovery of a fun Bed & Breakfast in Lewes, DE, where we stayed several times in August. The Blue Water House was one of the most uplifting stays we have ever had. See pics below and at Welcome Neighbor’s Facebook page [link?] In addition to comfortable soft beds and fascinating décor in a Key West theme, our rooms on several stays were immaculate and well equipped with refrigerators, TV with cable, WiFi, cotton sheets and soft towels. Besides that, they have a great collection of BBQ grills, comfortable lounge chairs at the Happy Hour tiki bar/patio, bikes, umbrellas, strollers, boogie boards, even beach buggies to tote everything to the Lewes beach just about a block away. On the third floor is a tricked-out game room, library and hangout place. There are 24-7 snacks, candy, soft drinks, ice cold waters, and a great breakfast custom cooked for you by Tony, the guy who does everything from the magnificent tile work to constructing sitting decks, to whatever your heart desires for breakfast. Rick recently purchased a camper which now has a sign reading “Man Cave.” There’s a sense of fun everywhere, and if there’s one thing we need plenty of, it’s fun!
Rick, the owner, is both an artist himself (he denies this ability, but evidence is everywhere in his philosophical expressions made into art) and a passionate art collector, all of which he shares with his guests. Each room is in itself a work of art that takes you right to Key West and beyond. There are wild sculptures everywhere to delight you, from a life-sized panther to the trumpeting elephant in the garden. There are trickling water fountains at every turn, and maybe best of all, two helpful guys who are there to serve you, owner Rick and right-hand man Tony.
Example: We arrived with our own bikes, not knowing how good their free bikes were. Bob discovered a flat tire as he was taking his bike off the rack. Rick directed him to the local bike shop and said “tell him Rick sent you.” The bike shop was off-the-walls busy, but the owner immediately helped Bob, saying, “give me 15 minutes.” He installed a new tube and inflated the tire and sent Bob off. Then we took my bike off and found ANOTHER flat tire! Same routine, fixed in 15 minutes flat (excuse the pun), and we were off on a great ride on the Cape Henlopen-Rehobeth Trail. For inner we walked to a nearby restaurant, and later found an ice cream cone that was a meal in itself. Rick and Tony can tell you where all the good places to eat are.
The Blue Water House would be a great getaway in any season, and the ambiance and warmth will not be forgotten. Did I mention it’s a short walk across the Rehebeth Canal to town, so no hassles with parking in town. Address: 407 E Market St, Lewes, DE 19958. Open 24 hours; Phone: (302) 645-7832, https://www.lewes-beach.com/
