Restaurant Review Bonefish Grill 8-28-19
Location: 4737 Concord Pike, in the Concord Mall between Macy’s and Sears, Rte. 202, Wilmington, DE 19803. It is very easy to find by entering the south parking lot entrance to the mall (second entrance, going south).
Owner: Sheri Davis, Managing Partner
Contact Information: 302 478 1835, [email protected], www.bonefishgrill.com, Facebook and Instagram.
Ambiance: Though the restaurant is located between large anchor stores in Concord Mall, the entry façade and feel are modern, chic, and friendly all at once. There is a team of people waiting to welcome and serve you as soon as you enter; and you have a large selection of seating choices in the bar and lounge or in the restaurant. You’ll find an attractive bar, high-top tables, booths and varieties of tables for different size groups.
Service: This is what I have found to be exceptional every time in the three experiences I’ve had there, for both happy hours and dinners: it is gracious and friendly and so darned quick! Drinks ordered arrive lickety-split, and they give you as much time as you want to look the menu over, hear the specials, and place your order. The order arrives just as it should, just as you requested—all food together, or in courses, etc.
Experience: I had never eaten at Bonefish because I was under the impression that it was “high-end,” which doesn’t go with the CheapEater mantra of “Eat High, Pay Low.” And I had confused it with another seafood restaurant with a similar name. The other restaurant which name shall remain nameless serves tilapia in different dishes, which for me, as a seafood eater who wants to eat responsibly, is an absolute no-no. At Bonefish, I learned that the seafood (and steak) arrive fresh daily. You won’t be eating Friday’s delivery on Monday night. The Bang-Bang Shrimp, when I tasted it, was so good I proclaimed “If I never eat another food in my life, I will have died happy.” We happened to be at Bonefish on Hooked on Tuesday night, when that dish was only $6.00 for a giant sharing dish of this! The dinner selections were a nice variety of prix-fixe menu, from a very nice cod picatta dish to lobster tail to seared ahi tuna, at prices from $16.99 to $22.99 (for the lobster tail and 6-oz filet mignon). Choose either a house salad or Caesar (won the table vote as best), sides (I loved the potatoes au gratin) and green vegetable (we like the green beans over the spinach dish, which had too much garlic and was watery). The dessert we went home with because we just couldn’t eat any more was “Jen’s Coconut Crème Pie with Myers dark rum sauce and whipped cream. It was pretty good, but on a next visit, I had the cheesecake, which was beyond delicious and will be my choice every time.
Menu: First, the all-important Happy Hour: We sampled such things as sushi-grade Ahi Tuna Poke, Crispy Cod Sliders, Wagyu Beef Sliders, Crispy Au Gratin Bites, Mussels Josephine and Crispy Calamari priced, at $6 each. That is a lot of interesting food! Their Happy Hour drinks are well presented and delicious, at $5—see the pic of my new favorite, the Moscow Mule served with speared candied ginger. Others tried the Blueberry Lemon Drop, Tropical Tiki Martini, Raspberry Vodka Collins and Fresh Margarita, and $4 house wines.
No one in our first experience ordered steak, but on the next dinner, my two partners did and loved it—delicious and tender and generous size.
There is so much to describe Bonefish—they do a sumptuous brunch on both Saturday and Sunday, for instance—and the seafood choices are changed up seasonally.
Total Bill: My bill on the Hooked on Tuesday was $16.99 plus the $6.00 Bang Bang Shrimp, so $22.99 plus tip.
Additional Comments: Don’t forget to sign up for their Dining Rewards offer, where every 4th meal is HALF-PRICE! This is a great deal, but you MUST remember to tell your server that you are a Dining Rewards member. I have never remembered yet. I wish they would ask, but I don’t blame them for not! We have yet to go for brunch, but hope to soon. It is a new top go-to place for these Cheap Eaters!
