Ambiance: In a small shopping strip almost immediately after turning onto Uwchlan Ave., as soon as you enter, you are transported. Stone, wood and warmth, with host station in an open foyer entry, friendly bar to the left, and dining rooms to the right. It had a bright, airy and welcoming feel, and the staff were also friendly. We were greetedThey told us there would be a 15-20-minute wait and asked if we wanted to eat in the bar right away, by Josephine the hostess and Andy Wagner, manager. We were given a beeper and sat at a quiet black granite table of our own in the bar, where we were quickly served two wonderful cocktails. Soon we were escorted to another quiet table in the dining room. There was an enclosed tent in front of the restaurant proper, but to me an enclosed tent full of people is very much like an interior room. There were also wooden picnic tables, but that held no appeal for me.
Service: Everything was perfect, andour food and drink arrived quickly. The only thing that would have improved it would have been if our waiter took away our empty drink glasses from the smallish table.
Experience: We were celebrating my birthday, and I had studied menus and ; possible choices long and hard, after our Covid lockdown period. I wanted that perfect experience, and we got it! Now we will go back and bring a group! The drinks we ordered at the bar were so good—and their craft beer and wine selections are quite tempting. At the bar, dining partner Bob got a Hurricane, the famous drink of New Orleans; and I got a Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita, which was so good we both ordered another at our table instead of wine with dinner. A big drink for $9. I am a lover of tapas and small plates, and they had small plates aplenty! We thought we’d start out with a small plate each and a cup of soup. Bob ordered Burnt Ends: spicy filet mignon tips, jalapeños and caramelized onions over braised beans at $15; and I ordered Shrimp & Grits: flash fried shrimp, polenta, brussels sprouts, pancetta, balsamic drizzle, at $14. The soups sounded so good, we each ordered a cup. Bob’s was a unique “Stuffed Pepper Soup” and mine was French onion soup. Both “small plates” were so huge we couldn’t even begin to think about the fabulous custom pasta dishes, salads or desserts! Ron has mini desserts, so you can taste many flavors, 3 for $9. But no could do!
Menu: My best advice is to go online and study the huge menu ahead of time—it is almost too much to take in! There are so many choices and unique dishes. They do a weeknight happy hour from 4:30 to 6:30, live music some nights, Trivia night, and chef’s special meals. To get the sense of commitment Ron Inverso to excellence in food and service he has over his 30 years of operation, visit his “About Us” here: https://www.ronsoriginal.com/about-us/rons-story/
Total Bill: $79 including 20% tip and four cocktails at $9
Additional Comments: It’s 27 minutes’ drive from Chadds Ford and worth every minute. I love this place!
